TAIPEI, Taiwan — Once the strain of swine flu virus is obtained, up to 24 million doses of H1N1 vaccine can be produced within three to six months, officials of a biotechnology company said yesterday.

Taiwan-based ADImmune Corporation (ADI), previously known as Kuo Kwang Biotechnology Company, will provide full aid to the government in generating the H1N1 vaccine if needed, the officials said.

ADI marketing director Lin Te-Kuan said the company has built a new influenza vaccine manufacturing plant in central Taiwan that can produce about 30 million doses per year.

Lin stressed once the H1N1 strain is received from the World Health Organization, the company will immediately start developing the vaccine, and can produce as many as 24 million doses within three to six months.

The company is in close contact with the government, which has recently established a disease control task force for H1N1, Lin continued.

The company said the government has recently invested into the company as a sign of support.

ADI provides most of the vaccines to local hospitals every year, Lin added.
